Hamish Irvine is a freelance photographer based in Leeds. He graduated from BA (Hons) Photography in 2017 with first-class honours and returned to the University as a Creative in Residence from autumn 2017 pursuing his ongoing street photography project. Hamish also set up his own successful wedding photography business after leaving the University.

Hamish works as a freelance photographer for small and large businesses, notably with the Professional Squash Association and Dunlop. He also works internationally photographing the sport and portraits of players. Throughout his university years he also undertook work for the University, capturing events and university life, which he continues to shoot now.

Supporting his professional practice, Hamish’s photographic passion is documenting people and cultures around the world. In his second year of university he rode a motorbike round Vietnam for a month solo and made a photography project out of the trip. Shooting purely on a 1950s rolleiflex camera, and using the University darkrooms to hand-print all the images, he opened an exhibition in Leeds.

Hamish continues to push his documentary style fuelled wedding photography. He describes his style as ‘documentary story telling packed with energy, colour and life'.
