Hannah Prince tells us why she chose to study BA (Hons) Creative Writing at Leeds Arts University and what advice she would give to prospective students...

Why did you choose to study at Leeds Arts University?

I chose to study here because a friend of mine was looking at University of Leeds, and suggested Leeds Arts. I checked it out, and when I came for my interview I was enthralled by the facilities and the people. The displays, the gallery and the interior design of both the old and new buildings were all incredible and brand new to me, and I knew then that I had to come here.

What does a typical week as a Creative Writing student involve?

Almost every workshop and lecture we have will be different, and Karen puts her everything into ensuring that we get the widest and most in-depth possible experience of the tools we need to work towards deadlines, bigger projects and our own writing style; building our portfolios one lesson at a time.

How does the University support you?

I have made many friends that I would not have made, if not for the Universities wide array of extra- curricular activities: from the union and societies, to the paid student ambassador role. As a student ambassador I have been given the opportunity to make new friends, meet new and possible future applicants, and work with the behind-the-scenes department of Leeds Arts University: the HE department, administration and all the staff involved in running workshops and greeting visitors.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying Creative Writing at University?

I would advise them to go for it, because I've only been here a sort while, and already I know I made the right decision. I am meeting a huge array of contacts that can help forward my career every day, and also making lifelong friends and building up a writing skillset that is so personalised I doubt I could achieve it anywhere else.
