A series of student-led events has brought together musicians from BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance and BA (Hons) Music Production to perform in venues across Leeds.
Students from across all year groups have formed bands, creating a lively mix of styles and line-ups with artists such as international student Okyanus, alongside bands like Meraki and several promising first-year groups taking to the stage across the city throughout the year.
Final year students have taken a lead role in organising the events, running the popular monthly Canvas Promotions Night. This series showcases talented musicians from the course moving to a different venue each month, giving students the chance to experience a range of professional environments. So far this year the students have hosted two shows at Hyde Park Book Club, one at The Attic, another at Oporto, and most recently at Belgrave Music Hall.
This regular rotation of venues offers students hands-on learning of how different spaces operate, while also placing them directly within Leeds’ music economy. This variety strengthens their understanding of live performance, encourages collaboration across courses and year groups, and helps original student-led bands to flourish. With eight shows planned across the year, the programme provides a rich run of real world opportunities.
