Faith Addison
faithaddisondesign.wixsite.com / @faithaddisondesign
I am a graphic designer with a strong interest in branding, communications and visual identity. The purpose of my final project was to create and design a new fitness brand for women. Fitness brands are at the top of their game today. Through social media they have a lot of influence on their followers. However, most of the fitness brands out there focus on the idea of six pack abs and a large toned bum. The brand itself is about the influencer more
than the actual fitness.I created the brand Motive, a fitness page for women that doesn’t focus on the idea that physical appearance is the only reason to exercise. Instead, its aim is to motivate young women to exercise while feeling positive about themselves through fitness. The way Motive gets young women motivated is by having an Instagram presence that doesn’t display transformation and ‘bikini ready’ images but instead displays tips and tricks for exercising, the positive benefits of exercising and animated workout videos. For the branding, I designed the Instagram posts, animated workout videos, an app prototype, and the branding and social media guidelines for the entire brand.

Maithreyee Arun
maiself.art / www.youtube.com / @mmaiself2.0
I am a Multidisciplinary Illustrator; I seek a sense of absurdity in the mundane world. I choose to represent unanswered questions within my work with a non-sensical tone, yet the imagery symbolises a sense of surreal cynicism towards the ways of humans.
At this time, it seems as though the world is at a standstill. I think to myself, is the false advertising of a blurred reality, accompanied by ignorance, the only way humans can seek true happiness?
‘Digiscope: A Digital Timescape’ represents the idea of how despite being further away from one another, the internet enables us to have a sense of self within a shared platform. We can come together as a community to voice our version of reality and concerns with others. I wanted to juxtapose the idea of changing times with the use of changing materials, aided by the visual narrative, sound and poetry. The audience should experience a trance-like nostalgia
through the colours, which leads them to question their ways of existence, and the true intent of the work. As the viewer is hypnotised by the moving landscape, the artist bursts their bubble, back into their reality. -

Maisie Banks
vimeo.com / @maisiebanksmedia / www.maisiebanks.com
I am a videographer and photographer with a strong interest in narrative filmmaking. I have a passion for scriptwriting and directing. I love creating narrative from a subject that communicates a prominent message, be that a campaign for a brand, a promotional film, or a campaign/ short film communicating an important matter. I make films that centre around a particular message that I want to communicate, where creatively crafting elements within the film to connote this message is something I am passionate about.
‘#SafeAtHome’ reflects on the current pandemic, and focuses on an individual’s experience, particularly focusing on one’s mental and physical health and the relationship between them through this. With this, the film also hones in on the idea that, though our daily normalities have been taken away during this time, the best things in life really are simple.

Born of Frustration 2020, the first of a series of 3 self-portraits. (makeup and photography direction by Laura Bretnall)
I am an Art Director specialising in Photography and Makeup Artistry. I have a deep interest in the manipulation of identity to create characters that communicate undisclosed meanings.
This photograph depicts the sadness and frustration I felt at the beginning of lockdown restrictions imposed in the UK due to the global pandemic.
It reflects my inability to complete and showcase my graduation work to industry, colleagues and family in a physical exhibition, as well as imposing uncertainty on my future plans and opportunities.

Mai Brightling
prettylittletruths.uk / www.maibrightling.com / @hellobrightling
I am a multimedia designer with a passionate focus on sustainability. PrettyLittleTruths is an interactive documentary exploring various strands of sustainable living. Each user’s experience is different depending on their pre-existing attitudes towards the topic; there are multiple pathways leading to different outcomes. A montage of sound recordings, documentary photography and film clips communicate how sustainability relates to every aspect of our lives.
The visual identity is designed to emulate the branding of fast-fashion retailers such as Boohoo, in order to reach young people typically less engaged in the discussion around sustainability. However, as each pathway is personalised, the intent is that there is something of interest to anyone that explores the site, including those actively fighting the climate crisis.

Bronte Carter
@bronte.carter / www.brontecarter.com
Growing up I was always fascinated with surreal stories and movies. They became a source of escapism as they enabled me to imagine a whole other world, more exciting and exotic than my own. This is particularly why I was drawn to fashion photography as a medium, alongside my set-design skills it has enabled me to tangibly translate these ideas. This project consists of a series of dreamscapes created from a surrealist perspective and has been influenced by a variety of surrealist artworks that have particularly resonated with me. Some of these include Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’, Pan’s Labrinth, Wizard of Oz and Dali’s surreal house.
Women have often been underrepresented in traditional surrealist art, so through my work I aim to bring a more contemporary viewpoint and adaptation of the more traditional points of inspiration, focusing on challenging gender stereotypes. Surrealist techniques employed by traditional and contemporary artists and photographers were practised through creating the work, including the inclusion of symbolic imagery, distortion of size, disembodiment
and altered perspective. -
Devon Chambers
@bydevonchambers / devonchambers1.wixsite.com / vimeo.com/devonchambers
I specialise in lens based media and I am particularly interested in brand content creation in a variety of styles, ranging from event photography to fashion films and music videos.
For my final piece I compiled my fashion campaign and lifestyle photography into ‘“floret”, my digital lookbook, where the aesthetic focuses on stylish clothing in beautiful locations. Drawing from my artist research, I wanted to inspire the audience to have greater appreciation for the outside world whilst encouraging their connection to the environment. I have also tried to strengthen this message by creating an accompanying fashion video which aims to communicate movement towards sustainability and reconnecting with our environments in order to support the restoration of nature.
My target audience for this project are young adults that are interested in fashion and sustainability. My goal was to prompt consideration for ethical choices behind their fashion styling, at a point in their life where style is an important way of expressing individuality.

Kate Clarke
I am an illustrator and multifarious maker, with a diverse practice incorporating my skills in bookbinding, drawing, painting, baking, sewing and, most recently, printing. I was first introduced to traditional print in my first year at Leeds Arts University, when we learned screenprinting, which I instantly loved.
Across all three years of my degree I explored many other print techniques, my favourite being etching, in which I have gone on to develop my own style and now feel confident in adding to my skillset. Designing for print has had an impact on the way I draw and compose my work in other areas of my practice, especially my illustrations, where I have found that I consider the structure of the images and the play of light within them in a new way. I have also noticed a move from entirely figurative work into the more abstract.
Recent events in the UK led me to become interested in politics and current affairs and the editorial style of illustration. This has informed my practice and much of my most recent work is of this genre. Going forwards after graduation, I hope to work freelance as an illustrator (ideally securing representation with an illustration agency), as well as continuing my print-making learning.

Sophie Clay
@sophieclaycomics / bastardsdontdothat.com
I’m a freelance illustrator specialising in sequential art. This year, I’ve been focusing on developing a graphic novel, which blends LGBTQ+, political and extreme religious themes, exploring the fine lines between faith and political power. I’ve had the freedom to develop original characters based on my own script, which has culminated in an extended sample of the finished work. I’m planning on continuing to develop this project alongside my freelance
work.Currently, I’m working as the artist for the web comic, ‘Bastards Don’t Do That!’, which is a crude satire of life in the U.S. Marine Corps. I really wanted the chance to also showcase this project, as I think it’s a fantastic example of a comic that’s not afraid to challenge boundaries whilst also giving you a good laugh. It’s not often that I get to design such a widely diverse group of characters. If you want to read the comic, it’s being hosted by the writer, at the above link.

Erin Cooper-Jones
I am a photographer, with a passionate interest in dog photography. This image forms part of a series created to show the bond between human and dog. I have expressed this through the relationship I have with my dog, Noddy.
Noddy is a sixteen-year-old Bichon Frisé, Poodle cross. I got him when he was only seven weeks old and I was aged ten. We have been inseparable since and we share an incredibly close bond. Noddy has lived with me in three different homes, but within the last three years has moved in with my parents on their a farm, whilst I pursued my degree.
As part of my final project I created four portraits of Noddy, each reflecting on different aspects of our relationship together. As Noddy is getting older, this project has been an emotional process. Reminiscing on the journey we have taken together, which will inevitably will come to a close one day not too far in the future.

Lydia Fernyhough
issuu.com / www.behance.net/lcfcreative / @lcfcreative
I am a Graphic Designer who specialises in Typography and Editorial design. I have a key interest in environmental sustainability which feeds into my design practice. For my final project at Leeds Arts University, I have produced the magazine, ‘Beauty Behind Closed Doors’ which I hope will bring awareness to the reality of the modern day beauty industry in terms of the social, economic and environmental effects that the industry contributes to.
The visual way in which I’ve tried to represent the information given is that the beauty industry seems like a pristine, regulated industry from the outside but then there are many deep and dark secrets on the inside that companies hide from the consumers. I have decided to visually represent these themes by choosing clean, dream-like imagery on the outside, introduction and end; then inside the magazine are contrasting dark colours. The marbling effect that you see throughout and the harsh mixing of colour is to represent the ingredients mixing together along with other aspects of the industry that I believe needs to be brought to light.

Georgia Frances
@404avi / vimeo.com / www.youtube.com / linkedin.com
I am an independent filmmaker and freelance videographer with a strong interest in visual effects and creating surreal, disturbing visual imagery. Outside of making films for fun, I like to work on a variety of projects, specialising in behind the scenes and live music coverage locally, with a passion in particular for music video production.
Inspired by works including Carl Jung’s The Red Book and Neon Genesis Evangelion, my most recent work is an experimental art film which utilises the visual language of dreams and the unconscious mind to explore the theme of individuation and the self. The film blends both live action and animation to illustrate the gradual disintegration of the self, and ultimately, reality. The film is currently in the process of being submitted to festivals and will be available online on both of my Youtube and Vimeo platforms shortly.

Freya George
freyageorge16.wixsite.com / @frey.a.nimation / youtube.com
I am a Motion Graphics Designer with a strong interest in 3D animation and modelling. I’m passionate about creating motion graphics for campaigns and advertising. I’m also interested in 3D modelling for video games.
For my final university module, I created a 3D animation about sustainable living. I am passionate about helping the planet so I really enjoyed creating the animation to educate and speak up about how sustainable living is necessary. The animation is titled ‘Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not happening’ and the topics it covers are
factory farming, plastic pollution and deforestation. Each scene is from the point of view of a person who isn’t directly affected by climate change versus the point of view of an animal that is directly affected.The aim of my animation is to make people aware that how we are living is negatively affecting the planet and the species living on it. But it isn’t all doom and gloom, by adding small changes to our lifestyles we can reduce these negative impacts. Together we can create change!

Lucy Gordonsmith
I am a multidisciplinary artist, currently focusing on moving image, with a present interest in music videos. Due to the restrictions imposed by the lockdown, this final project was a challenge of combining different mediums to create something to best fit the music, visually. This particular video was an accumulation of stop motion animation, live video and archive footage, as an alternative to narrative video filmmaking I had explored previously.

Phoebe Hatch
@eggwhirl / www.etsy.com / www.mercht.com
I’m a Graphic Designer with a specialised interest in digital photomontage. My work is heavily influenced by symbolism and surrealism. For this project, I wanted to explore the theme of grief. It is based around a personal experience of loss, and the uncertainty of feelings that remain with me. I have produced a series of posters that respond to and reflect my confusion and overwhelming feelings about what happened.
I currently have my designs for sale as A3 prints on my Etsy account as well as mercht.com. Over time, I will create them into tapestries, mugs, t-shirts, and other merchandise that my customers can buy too.

Duc Hoang
I am a graphic designer with a passion for packaging design and motion graphics. I have a variety of interests within visual media. For this project, I focused on refining and developing my 3D and animation skills.
For my final major project, I created a short product advertisement for a concept soda brand that I decided to call ‘Flavr’. I modelled and animated the cans in 3D using Blender, and designed the packaging for it using Illustrator. I also animated the logo using After Effects and then finally brought everything together using Premiere Pro. The full animated short can be viewed on my Instagram page.

Col Howson
Learning about and visually communicating American Cowboy Culture has been the main focus of my practice during my three years at Leeds Arts University. As a mixed media artist, I have thoroughly explored my interest in Cowboys primarily through narrative filmmaking, painting and performance art. Similarly, creative writing has been a focus throughout which led me to write my own Country Music album to symbolise where my love for Cowboys began.
Having my own art persona is an important element to my practice: ‘Cowboy Col’ emerged naturally and I used this character to promote and host Western themed events such as a film screening and murder mystery parties that I wrote. A prominent factor I like people to take from my work is how I aim to encourage others to ‘be your own cowboy’, be playful and not care what others think of you. The values of Cowboy Col remain stronger than ever as I continue to generate art, move on from University and ride off into the sunset.

Double Deecor is an upcycled furniture business I created with my friend, Denisa Kreitzer. We came up with the idea by combining our passions for interior design, fine art and sustainable living. We believe we can provide people with hand-painted, unique pieces that are not only one of a kind, but also affordable for a wider audience. Our entire collection is made from second-hand materials that we have given a new lease of life and character to. We aim to create individual pieces influenced by 1970s Indian and Moroccan interior design, that won’t negatively impact the planet.

Jing Koo-Wang
I am a visual communicator and aspiring brand designer. My approach focuses closely on details, and draws on extensive research to help me understanding user experiences.
Tasting Scotland is a collection of experiences from a road trip around Scotland with my elder brother, a whisky enthusiast. My final deliverables are united by a single thematic concept: to express my experience through revealing personal feelings and knowledge I acquired on the trip. The brief was strategically planned not only to showcase my branding skills but also to be able to work on a personal and meaningful topic.
My recent exploration was making atmospheric digital illustrations, as it added an air of sophistication to a particular mood and better conveyed emotions. As part of the project, I made an artist’s book that focuses on expressing feelings and capturing serendipitous moments which I shared with my elder brother during the trip.

Sophie Lane
I am a multidisciplinary designer that specialises in event management. Throughout my degree I have worked on a variety of art and community inspired events. My favourite part of my practice is collaboration with others - graphic designers, musicians, photographers, performance artists and venues. I enjoy that my role can take on so many different forms - I can be managing a team meeting one hour and curating a set of images the next.
My most recent event was a photography exhibition that showcased the work of 80 local artists. I was lucky to be supported by a very talented team that helped bring my ideas to life. The ethos behind this project was to encourage people of all skill levels to get involved. Exhibitions can be seen as intimidating, and are commonly seen as spaces exclusively for professional artists - I wanted to challenge this. The result was a friendly and exciting atmosphere, and a collection of images that covered a wide range of subjects and styles. It was a great feeling encouraging people to get involved in photography and to see their reactions to having their own pictures up in a show!

Rebecca Lawson
rebeccalawsonart.wordpress.com
I am a multidisciplinary artist specialising in sustainable craft and illustration. I enjoy working with natural materials and sustainable processes. My work aims to ignite further appreciation for natural spaces and a desire to explore local woodland areas. To bring awareness to British species and the ways in which we can help them thrive, especially those that are endangered.This specific piece ‘The Bird’ is created from a range of species of leaves found in The Pinewoods, Harrogate.
I have returned the piece to the location where the materials were collected and suspended it overlooking the expanse of the broad-leaved woodland. I hope to bring awareness to local species and their environments as well as evoke a creative and adventurous aspect to the woodland, in the hope that it will gain more visitors and encourage people to make use of natural materials with an increased respect for natural landscapes.

Caitlin Leigh
I specialise in illustration and graphics, and my main focus is on editorial illustration and telling a story through my images. I use satire to get my point across, and a lot of my work has focused around mental health.
For my final piece I created a series of comic strips around people’s personal stories from working in the hospitality industry. I wanted to convey what it’s like from the perspective of a worker, and hopefully encourage people to be kinder when they’re being served. I put the comic strips together in an unconventional way, displaying illustrations of the person telling the story on one side. Each comic strip was in different colours to represent the different narratives.
My intended target audience is people with experience working in this industry, as I felt the stories I am telling could be quite relatable for them.

Christina Little
With a focus on multidisciplinary illustration, I implement a tactile and hand-rendered practice. Combining traditional media with elements of digital influence, I aim to experiment with contemporary structures and elements within narratives and storytelling. Utilising a vibrant, satirical and humorous visual language, I enjoy producing multidimensional components that unite and respond to individual commentaries.
This work utilises the common meanings of familiar idioms and reinterprets them on a personal level. Frequently offered as advice or guidance, it was interesting to examine the emotional impact these expressions can elicit. Upon reflection of my recent circumstances, I identified the persistent presence of certain idioms and the sentiments I began associating with them. By establishing my most significant events, I determined the idioms that best summarised the emotions, thoughts and narratives of the past year. Re-conceptualising the expected interpretations of these phrases, allows an audience to engage and compare their understandings and experiences to mine.
-
Kashin Manning
I am an illustrator and designer. As a biracial and “third-culture” kid, my work tends to explore the realms of different cultures, from ethnic cultures to internet and youth subcultures. I wanted to create a piece that touched on both the protests taking place in my birthplace - Hong Kong - and the current global pandemic and their mutual link of the hygiene mask.
-
Isabella Martin
I am first and foremost a visual communicator. Over my 3 years of university I have worked to build my skills within photography, film, illustration, fashion, theatre and graphic design.
I have wanted to bring a focus, through my art, on current environmental and humanitarian issues. These being causes I hold close to my heart, they often seep into the work I do.
I enjoy the power of storytelling and creating imagery that brings a narrative to life. The activity itself has allowed me to meet incredible people and gain access into their lives.
I get the most pleasure out of working with a team and collectively seeing the progression of a project from inception to completion.
From a young age I have wanted to give a voice to stories that are not represented in mainstream media. Photography has enabled me to do this, and capturing seemingly mundane elements of people’s lives sheds light on the differences of the everyday activities of humans from place to place.
Whilst studying this degree, I have set out to capture some of the stories, cultures and communities from around the world. With the idea to give a voice to those who seek one.

Penny McDonald
I am an illustrator with a strong interest in tattoo design. During this module I aim to have successfully designed tattoos which give consideration to anatomy. I have created unique outcomes by looking at body angles, perspectives and contoured shapes. Developing a social media platform, which will create a business, where the public can see my style and can contact me instantly. This module has helped communicate ways in which tattoos can be used to highlight parts of the body and to create an aesthetically pleasing design.
The concept has the same medium and context, keeping the theme and style of my work consistent. I use dot work and geometric shapes to create unique designs to fit around certain parts of the human body. I have used this module to create tattoo designs which complement the male and female figures. Different parts of the body can change a design's shape and theme, creating tattoo illustration that stands out.

@the.up.cycle.of.life.people / @abimcmahonart
I am a multidisciplinary artist specialising in printmaking and graphic design. I enjoy combining handmade pieces with digital design. I am driven to make work that centres around themes of environmental, social and political issues. My current project has focused on educating people about the climate crisis, inspiring them to change their individual actions and persuading them to take part in activism in order to make our world better for all. I have done this through a social media campaign on the collaborative Instagram page, The Up-Cycle of Life, working with a fellow student.

Minh Nguyen
vimeo.com / @muunn / @nqm.cmyk / @nqm.rgb
I am a multidisciplinary artist. My work is now focused mainly in Filmmaking. My work explores the relationship between sound and moving images and how music plays a crucial role in storytelling.
Moving image has proven to be the best platform for my work, as it allows me to explore a variety of different methods of communication, while taking my practice further and making it unique to me.
For my graduate project, I wanted to produce a visually abstract film with additional original scoring. ‘House Rat’ is a short psychological horror film. The story follows Louis, a young man who has been isolating alone for two years since lockdown was enforced in the UK. I wanted to create a story that identified common anxieties felt in this time, but amplify them in a fictional setting.

India Perske
@b.o.p.collective / india-perske.format.com / @taste__y / linkedin.com
I set up 'BOP Collective' in my final year. It is an exciting creative platform that collaborates with young creatives to sell, exhibit and promote work at BOP Collective events, such as exhibitions, markets and pop-up events.
In March, I hosted the first BOP Collective event - an art and fashion launch party - at the Hyde Park Book Club, in Leeds. I organised all aspects of the event in the last year of my Visual Communication degree, specialising in areas of curation, event planning, exhibition design, project management, branding and marketing.
The ethos of BOP Collective is to create a space for young creatives to put their mark on the world and to build a strong sense of community, through events and collaborations. This project documents the start of an exciting brand that will continue to grow in London, and develop a wider audience at BOP Collective events, and also as an online creative platform (see the Instagram page).

Hayley Presho
hayleypreshovisuals.wixsite.com / @itsnotmine___/
My work has been created to feature on my online platform It’s Not Mine. It’s Not Mine originated from my experience as a student on a budget; always borrowing clothes and learning to utilise what I already had. The platform is designed to provide an insight into the fashion industry through multiple perspectives to educate, entertain and inform my audience about trends/issues/key topics within the industry, achieving this through my skills as a Fashion Photographer and Videographer.
The overarching theme for my work is fashion consciousness and encouraging better choices to reduce the waste consumption and the environmental impact of the industry. My softer approach is designed to target an audience dis-engaged with this aspect of the industry. The images exhibited have been selected from my series titled Nothing To Wear which stems from the common phrase: "I have nothing to wear” despite having a full wardrobe of clothes. The purpose behind the work is to highlight how many clothes we discard and to depict the negative relationship we have with our clothes due to a ‘throw away’ culture.

Daniel Price
I am an illustrator, currently working primarily with digital illustration. I aim to explore political narratives in my work, with my last module exploring the concept of Demagogues, leaders that exploit emotions, prejudices, and fears to propel themselves into power. Using symbolism and metaphor, I wanted my work to communicate and explore their methods in order to encourage observers to question the figures that we all vote for; leaders that feign to care for their people when, in reality, all they care about is climbing to the top of the ladder and refusing to let go. United by the concept of provoking audiences to reflect on current political events, my artwork is intended to help people consider our reality and see the possibility of a better future.
Developing a single-tone colour style, I focused on the atmosphere and lighting in my illustrations to emphasise a dark and ominous sense of character for the Demagogues and their recurring tactics of manipulation and control. The final outcome of the project was in the form of a book, illustrations accompanied by writing, explaining the context of what each drawing explored.

I am a graphic designer with a strong interest in 3D motion graphics and animation. For the final project of my degree course, I aimed to incorporate everything I have learned and accomplished during my three years at university, celebrating my work and everyone that has helped along the way. The concept was to host an event - presented by my brand, Gemini Branding - with live DJs, motion graphics, merchandise for sale, drinks and a good time. The build up to the event included promotion for all DJs/groups and all other collaborations in order to boost awareness and overall audience. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to COVID-19, so I responded by developing a virtual recreation of what my event could have been using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine; creating a highlight reel that you can view using the link above.

Bethany Rothwell
I am a multidisciplinary designer interested in going into visual merchandising. My previous work has included photomontage and collage, creating work from exhibition pieces to single covers. Recently I have experimented with creating dramatic installations, using paper to create sustainable displays. All the paper I used was repurposed and sourced from a scrap store, ensuring no new waste was created during the process of my project.
My last piece ‘Forget Me Not’ (pictured above) is part of a series of dramatic handcrafted paper installations staged around my home. My work is a commentary on how being in lockdown has affected the environment around us and of the struggles faced by those in a similar situation to myself living in a small apartment with no garden and limited green space. This theatrical display of flowers and growth taking over the everyday objects in my home was inspired by news reports of nature thriving during this time. I imagined what it would be like if it got inside my home and grew everywhere. The title is a reminder of this time and what nature can do if we let it.

Emily Setterfield
@eset_designs / emilysetterfield23.wixsite.com
I am an Illustrator with a strong interest in floral and botanical pieces. I create designs inspired by flowers and plants. I use Adobe Illustrator and a Wacom Bamboo board to create all my designs. I originally started exploring wedding decoration, which led me to create floral and botanical drawings. From these drawings, I created my own small business called Eset_designs. I sold some limited edition designs that I printed onto T-shirts, via my social media pages such as Facebook, Instagram and Depop. Creating my own business allowed me to experience new skills such as coming up with a business plan, learning how to handle money, figuring out how I could make profit, learning how to print onto T-shirts and also teaching myself how to create a business online.

Chloe Shephard
chloeshephard.co.uk / @chloephotoandbooks
I am a designer and photographer specialising in bookmaking. The majority of my work has a focus on nostalgia, catharsis and self-reflection. Recurring elements include digital messages and private thoughts. I aim to be the facilitator of work that can be given new life through those who interact with it.
In Light Rain, I convey the rush of feelings at the very beginning of a relationship, through to the more stable feelings further along. The piece is intended to be a collaborative work between the viewer and myself: the intention is that the viewer can select and display the cards however and wherever they please, to convey whatever feeling they want. As a result, the scope of the work is theoretically infinite: the cards could be posted to a lover, they could be drawn upon, they could be simply displayed. I created a piece which inspires deeper connection with those who interact with it.

Joshua Thewliss
My name is Joshua Thewliss and I’m a Leeds-based videographer working toward my desired job as a cinematographer. I have a variety of skills within various mediums, but over the past four years I have specialised in using the camera and paint brush.
Before I made the transition to a predominantly lens-based practice, the majority of my studies and drawings were focused around promoting awareness of the roles of the military and armed forces, and what thousands have sacrificed for others.
Now, by using a camera and a new visual platform based on the moving image, I’m able to raise awareness of many other social and ethical issues, as well as current affairs, which are important in the times that we live.
As a passionate filmmaker, I love to turn ideas into reality, with my eye for composition and my technical ability to edit. My aims are to deliver a strong visual message and raise awareness of different issues and events through the use of visual imagery, educating the viewer.
I have produced visual content ranging from the '#MeToo' movement, to the effects of homelessness. I strive to be a bridge that connects communities and contribute to a greater understanding of the world in which we live.

Ruth Viccars
@ruthviccars / ruthviccars.wixsite.com
I am a multimedia designer influenced by DIY culture, vintage aesthetics and contemporary graphic design. My work is informed by art theory and popular culture, and often contains themes linking to ‘the self’, sexuality and feminism. I have a particular interest in mixing digital design, photography and film-making with analogue, hands-on approaches such as printmaking, bookbinding and illustration.
‘Close the Door Behind You’ is an exploration of my experience living and working predominantly out of one room (my bedroom) during my time at university. This narrative is communicated through a series of posters from my metaphorical bedroom wall. They represent significant themes and events from the last three years. In this way, they begin to build an alternative type of portrait; a personal story told through a seemingly innocuous form of ephemera that has adorned almost every bedroom wall.

As an illustrator and visual designer, I aim to capture intricate concepts by weaving-in metaphorical and narrative points-of-interest throughout my illustrative work. I use my visual language to explore experiences of the individual: conscious and unconscious.
This piece was produced using a combination of meticulous planning and free-association. This illustration aims to evoke feelings of an unconscious limbo.
'The "Paradise of Unconsciousness" is a place we go away to, to escape the everyday cycle. To do nothing, and to be nothing - a paradise away from the reality of responsibility.'
