Textile Design students win at the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition 2026

BA (Hons) Textile Design

Students and recent graduates from BA (Hons) Textile Design have won prizes and commendations at the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition 2026, including first prize in two categories.

Established in 1893, the Bradford Textile Society is the oldest textile society in Britain, and one of the oldest in the world. The Society provides opportunities for everyone with an interest in textiles to meet and discuss a range of textile-related topics with invited speakers. The Society’s annual Design Competition attracts over 1,000 entries from students throughout the UK.

Students Olivia Burrows and Maisey Kennison received commendations in The Clothworkers’ Company Award, for a printed textile design for either fashion or interiors showing creative potential. Sophie Lindley and Grace Cook were awarded commendations for the Prestigious Textiles Ltd Award, which recognises textile designs showing innovative uses of colour, techniques, and motifs. Emma Hopewell received a commendation in for The CIWMT Award, for a textile design suitable for a children’s fashion or interiors collection.

Kacey Hindson, whose work explores colour and pattern through drawing, print and textile techniques, took first place in The Lapa Award, for embroidered textile design for fashion or interior products using hand-embroidery techniques.

"Being awarded first place in the Bradford Textile Society design competition for the LAPA Charitable Trust Award is a special achievement for me, especially at the end of my first year at university. It’s really encouraging to have my work recognised and has given me more confidence and motivation as I continue developing my practice."

Nicky Haus and Grace Cook received first and second prizes respectively in The Dyers’ Company Award, with Trudie Snelling receiving a commendation in the category. Nicky, whose practice draws inspiration from nature, sculpture and heritage, was also awarded The CIWMT Travel Award. Presented to four students chosen from the prize-winning and commended entries across all sections of the competition, Nicky will receive an expenses-paid visit to Premiere Vision in Paris as part of the award.

“Winning both The Dyers’ Company Award and the CIWMT Travel Award is incredibly meaningful to me. As a mature student returning to education, developing my creative practice has been a real journey of discovery, and I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement of my tutors, technicians, academic support team, and peers throughout my studies. I would highly recommend the BA (Hons) Textile Design course to anyone considering a creative education. It has genuinely been life-changing for me, both creatively and personally, and I’m incredibly excited about my final year of study and where this journey will take me next.”
