Textile Design graduates win New Designers Awards

BA (Hons) Textile Design

Two recent BA (Hons) Textile Design graduates, Laura Mycroft and Beth Lingard, have been awarded prizes from key industry leaders at New Designers 2025.

New Designers is the UK’s leading platform for design talent, featuring the work of over 3,000 talented graduates from the UK’s leading universities. The show gives graduates the opportunity to promote their work to an audience from across the design industry at the Business Design Centre, London.

The New Designers Awards is a prestigious awards programme supported by leading industry partners, who reward and recognise the design stars of the future. The week one award ceremony was opened by fashion icon Dame Zandra Rhodes.

Laura Mycroft was announced as the winner of The Habitat Future Design Award for her work ‘Oiseau du Modernisme’. As a celebration of the biophilic spaces designed by Sri Lankan architect Minnette De Silva, one of the first female architects to have her own practice in the 1940s, Laura has created an eclectic wallpaper and interior textiles collection.

The work was judged by a panel including Andrew Tanner, Head of Design at Habitat and Abi Wilson, Head of Buying at Habitat. They were looking for work which shared their passion for design, craftsmanship, innovation, sustainability and future thinking. Laura was awarded mentoring from the Habitat Design Studio along with a £500 cash prize.

“Laura's work shows wonderful story telling and skillset. Rich in colour, technique and a diverse, unique, handwriting. Laura's print and pattern is witty and colourful, much like our ethos for Habitat”

Beth Lingard won the Premier Digital Textiles Vibrancy in Print Award for her ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ collection. The judges felt that Beth’s work “shows a strong dedication to colour and details within digital print.”

Beth was awarded a £500 cash prize, along with £500 worth of PrepRITE fabric and print time, enabling her to bring her designs to life. In addition, Beth will receive ongoing mentoring support from industry experts and the judges, providing valuable guidance and insights.

Laura and Beth exhibited their work at New Designers, along with other graduating students from BA (Hons) Textile Design, where they had the opportunity to showcase their work and present their ideas to industry professionals and members of the public.
