BA (Hons) Photography and MA Photography students, alumni and staff have contributed to projects as part of Bradford UK City of Culture 2025.

MA Photography student Louie Haslam-Chance and BA (Hons) Photography graduate Joshua Hart are both exhibiting work as part of Our Turn, an arts festival designed and led by artists and delivered by South Square Centre in collaboration with Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, Yorkshire Contemporary and Bradford Producing Hub.

Joshua Hart co-curated the exhibition 'The Pursuit of the Perfect Game' with Erin Fairhurst.

'The Pursuit of the Perfect Game' is an on-going photographic exploration of tenpin bowling as both sport and subculture by Bradford-based artist Joshua Hart. This work aims to challenge public perceptions of bowling and celebrate its diversity, history, and hidden rituals.

'The Pursuit of the Perfect Game' is on until 25 November 2025 at Go Bowling, Market Street, Shipley.

"Exhibiting work is a really important way of realising a project, no matter how big or small it is. Being able to sequence images to suit a particular space challenges you to think differently. I wouldn’t have any of this knowledge if it wasn’t for learning about it whilst studying. This project is incredibly important to me as a photographer who’s a part of this community but also for the sport itself, hopefully highlighting the huge sense of joy, passion and dedication that tenpin bowling has to offer."

Louie Haslam-Chance is one of the recipients of a commission for the festival that became his solo show, 'Mucky Beck'. 'Mucky Beck' is a poetic photographic exploration of the Bradford Beck and its tributaries. Using analogue photography and eco-friendly processes, including developing film with water from the beck itself, the project unearths the complex history and quiet beauty of a river often overlooked.

'Mucky Beck' is on from 14 November until 5 December 2025 at Fourth Idea Studios, Fourth Idea CIC2 Ashley House, Commercial Mills, Upper Ashley Lane Shipley. Louie Haslam-Chance and BA (Hons) Photography graduate Amina Ahmed have also been working behind the scenes as New Focus: Bradford Young Curators, a nationally acclaimed programme for 18 to 25 year-olds in Bradford led by Impressions Gallery.

Over an 18-month period, Amina and Louie have received guidance from Impressions Gallery and a cohort of mentors, including artists, curators and archivists, in order to develop the Bradford Family Album Project.

They have worked with communities to collect images for the Bradford Family Album archive, liaised with artists on the production of commissioned work, and steered the design of current exhibition: Make Yourself at Home: Stories from Bradford.

"I’m currently studying part-time on the MA Photography course at Leeds Arts University, and my time here has really helped me take my practice more seriously — from learning how to position and promote my work with more confidence, to understanding how best to access opportunities and funding. Alongside my studies, I’ve been part of the Bradford Young Curators programme at the Impressions Gallery, working over 16 months to develop and deliver a major exhibition through community workshops, planning, and installation. I’m also exhibiting my own solo photography show, Mucky Beck, which explores the hidden stories and history of the Bradford Beck through experimental analogue processes. "

The cookbook is a collection of treasured family recipes and stories from across Bradford District.
