Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design (now BA (Hons) Textile Design) graduate, Sara Boccaccini Meadows, was commissioned by Shondaland and Netflix to create a Bridgerton-inspired design for their artist series collection, that captures the beauty of the Netflix series.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Shondaland collaborated with Netflix and interviewed four emerging artists as part of their Bridgerton artists series. Sara’s Shondaland feature can be found here.

"I was very excited because I love the costumes, the setting, and all the botanicals. I also love the diversity in Bridgerton, as well, which a lot of the traditional period genres don’t have. That’s very important for my daughter, who is biracial. As a mother to a biracial child, to have people that represent her and know that that’s out there for her is great to me. … I get emotional about that."

Sara created an 18-by-24-inch painting of a beautiful Bridgerton garden party inspired by her love of botanical gardens, her upbringing in the Peak District, and visits to Chatsworth House. Sara illustrated the scene with paint, and then digitally translated the image to a textile surface.

"Part of my practice is inspiring people to get outdoors more and to appreciate the environment around us. The tapestry is something that you can take outside to the park and have a picnic."

Sara’s design is now available to purchase as a tapestry or journal via the Netflix Shop.
