BA (Hons) Marketing Communications (previously BA (Hons) Creative Advertising) graduates Cicely Alderson and Lisi Davis were part of the team that developed this year’s McDonald’s Christmas advert.
The campaign, ‘The Gift of McDonald’s’ launched with their film, in their own words "an EPIC light show set to the beat of Benny Benassi’s legendary track ‘Satisfaction". Directed by the award-winning Nicolai Fuglsig, the 60-second spot follows a couple sitting in their car after a busy day buying Christmas presents for their family. The Golden Arches is glowing in the distance which entices the couple to spontaneously visit McDonald’s via a larger-than-life light display.
Working as a creative team at LeoBurnett London, Cicely and Lisi took their ideas for the campaign beyond just the usual Christmas TV ad, to include Snapchat filters and packaging design. They also launched a digital activation as part of the campaign, The McDonald’s Gift Drop, giving fans the chance to win festive menu items and exclusive merchandise when they find hidden Gift Tags.
