Graduates win two Cannes Lions awards

BA (Hons) Marketing Communications

BA (Hons) Creative Advertising (now BA (Hons) Marketing Communications) graduates Jasper McIver and Zebedee Devey Waterhouse took home two Bronze Lions at The Cannes Lions Awards for their campaign ‘Little Breaks’.

The Cannes Lions Awards celebrate the best of global advertising and marketing, and are presented annually as part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Jasper and Zebedee won two Bronze Lions in the Outdoor and Design categories at this year’s awards, recognising their work on the ‘Little Breaks’ campaign for KitKat.

The duo, who work at VML London, formed the creative team for the project, and drew inspiration from the iconic tagline “Have a break, have a KitKat”. Utilising close crops of the brand’s immediately recognisable red lettering alongside discreetly placed hand-drawn figures, the campaign encourages passersby to investigate further, rewarding the audience for taking a moment of pause. Reflecting on their subtle approach to the campaign, they explain “the line 'Have a break, have a KitKat' is 70 years old, so our brief wasn't to come up with something new to say, but to find a new way to say it. And it was the longevity of the brand line that meant that we didn't need to say anything at all.”

‘Little Breaks’ launched in spring 2026 with prominent poster campaigns around the UK. Alongside their Cannes Lions wins, the project was nominated at the Gerety Awards and made the Creativepool Annual 2026 Shortlist.

“Winning our first Cannes Lions feels like somewhat of a full-circle moment, having visited the awards show whilst in the final year of our degree. At that time, creating work that was awarded with a Lion felt like a long way away, so it feels incredibly fulfilling to have made it happen.”
