Graduate launches viral ‘Get Wood Rising’ campaign for Durex

BA (Hons) Marketing Communications

Glynn Waltham, BA (Hons) Marketing Communications graduate, has launched Durex’s ‘Get Wood Rising’ campaign, featuring Sean Dyche, Steve Bracknall, and non-league side Woodley United.

Glynn and his team at McCann Content Studios were challenged by Durex to launch a range of new performance products, focussing on "men who might struggle to open up about the issues they may face in the bedroom". Working as a senior creative on the project, Glynn developed the concept of using football as a gateway to make conversations about sexual performance more approachable. Partnering with non-league side Woodley United, he created ‘Get Wood Rising’, a season-long campaign that “aims to turn the club’s push for promotion into a playful way to break down the stigma around sexual performance.”

Collaborating with the wider team at McCann, Glynn saw the campaign through from the initial idea through to production, enlisting former Premier League manager Sean Dyche and football content creator Steve Bracknall as Woodley United’s fictional directors of football. The campaign launched with a pun-filled hero film starring Dyche and Bracknall, and will continue throughout the season with playful documentary-style videos following the club’s journey.

“The launch film performed better than I could’ve ever imagined with over 3.8 million views and 315,000 organic shares, earned a shout-out on talkSPORT and was crowned The Drum’s Ad of the Day on the day of release.”
