Filmmaking students collaborate with local Italian restaurant for documentary

BA (Hons) Filmmaking

BA (Hons) Filmmaking students Humphrey Ward and Herbie Lewin collaborated with local Italian restaurant to create a documentary short.

It was the end of summer and Herbie and Humphrey were looking for a way to spend a day and make a film. They’d stopped off at local Leeds restaurant Lievitoo Street Pizza a few times and sensed the restaurant would make an interesting project.

Lievetto is already popular with TikTok influencers for their Roman style pizza.

The chefs prove their pizza dough for 72-hour hours which results in a digestible and appetising pizza, suitable for a range of dietary requirements. The result was a 30 minute documentary shot in black and white.

“The film was made outside of our course as a personal project. We wanted to engage with a small business, and we found Lievitoo’s restaurant a really engaging place to film. We really enjoyed working on this documentary and are in the process of looking for more businesses to make similar films about.”
