Filmmaking student wins Best Documentary at Pegasus Film Awards

BA (Hons) Fimmaking

A film produced by final year BA (Hons) Filmmaking student Ewan McWilliam has been officially selected as Best Documentary for the Pegasus Film Awards.

Reflections was a project undertaken by BA (Hons) Filmmaking students Ewan McWilliam, Finley Cairns, Charlie Brasier, Ewan Lindsay, and Jakob Burgess during their second year on the course.

The students were set a brief to create a main project during their second semester, with the idea for ‘Reflections’ coming from director Finley Cairns, who wanted to make a documentary showing different people's complex experiences with mental health. The film was produced by Ewan McWilliam and directed by Finley Cairns, with cinematography from Charlie Brasier, sound from Ewan Lindsay, and camera work by Jakob Burgess.

“Winning an award at a film festival for the first time ever was a phenomenal feeling. I was incredibly thrilled and I couldn’t be happier to have that under my belt. To have done it with such a great bunch of people around me, and only in second year as well was ace! It feels exciting now to say that I now have some good credibility, and it has only motivated me personally to produce more projects along the way!”

"We as a course are super proud of Ewan and his achievements. We are proud every time a student has the confidence to enter their course work into a film festival, especially when it is selected and then wins an award. It is very positive to gain outside industry recognition for our students' work and for Ewan achieving it while still being a student on the course is fantastic to see."
