Through partnership with Film Buddy, three recent graduates and one current student from our BA (Hons) Filmmaking course have gained on set work experience on the Paramount+ original series ‘Sexy Beast’.

The series is a prequel to the 2000 crime thriller film of the same name that starred Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley. The series will trace the relationship between friends and thieves Gal Dove (James McArdle) and Don Logan (Emun Elliott) who together become involved in London’s criminal world during the 1990’s.

Film Buddy offered work experience placements on set for the filming locations in Liverpool and Spain to all students and graduates across the UK that are registered with them. BA (Hons) Filmmaking student Nile Winterton and graduates Tom Payne, Jada Sanyaolu and Jack Pearson were all successful in being offered placements.

Tom Payne gained experience in the grip department (responsible for assembling and maintaining the camera equipment), whilst Jack Pearson worked in sound, and Nile Winterton and Jada Sanyaolu worked in the production department. Jada has since been hired in production after the work experience placement.

“Working with paramount on their series, ‘Sexy Beast’ was an absolute game changer. I now understand the underappreciated importance of the production department and how their working processes develop in a professional setting. This has helped me be better prepared for the industry when I graduate next year and hope to work within production departments. This industry is all about confidence and how you sell yourself, work experience at this early stage is vital for building this skill set!”

Paramount+ have announced a premiere date of Thursday 25 January 2024.
