Filmmaking graduate works on All Creatures Great and Small

BA (Hons) Filmmaking

BA (Hons) Filmmaking graduate Annabelle Pettifer, worked as a sound trainee on the latest series of All Creatures Great and Small.

After securing work experience on series 6 of the show last year through Film Buddy, Annabelle was invited back to work in the sound department for the filming of the upcoming series. Encouraged by her course team, Annabelle worked on location in the Yorkshire Dales from late February until June, juggling the role with the last year of her studies.

Annabelle quickly built confidence in the role, aided by the family atmosphere cultivated on set. Working as part of a close-knit local team, Annabelle’s responsibilities ranged from operating third boom (recording characters off-screen), fitting radio microphones onto cast members, and sound proofing, before progressing to operating the boom for characters on-screen.

"It meant a lot to be asked to work on All Creatures Great and Small. It’s a show that I watched before I got the job, and is an important part of the community. To be offered the role whilst still being at university, it answered all of my questions I had about finishing my degree and wondering whether will I get a job. Is it going to work out? It can! You just have to go for it. This experience made it all feel possible."

Following her work on the series, Annabelle will be rejoining the team as a sound trainee on a new programme, alongside working as a lighting trainee and taking on freelance sound design work.

Series 7 of All Creatures Great and Small will air on Channel 5 later this year.
