Fashion Design students shortlisted for Fida Fashion Illustration awards 2024

BA (Hons) Fashion Design

BA (Hons) Fashion Design students Heather Sprowson and Cara Murphy have been shortlisted for the 9th Fida Excellence in Fashion, Art and Illustration Awards.

Final year student Heather Sprowson was also shortlisted last year.

Fida is a global online platform, promoting fashion illustration and drawing around the world and supporting artists and creatives who want to embrace fashion and drawing into their practice, commercially and artistically. The awards are judged by a panel of leading industry experts, and prizes will be given across eight categories with one overall winner.

For Cara Murphy's Fida submission, she chose to illustrate an Alessandra Rich dress, combining traditional and modern techniques. She started with a hand drawing to capture the initial form and details, then added depth and texture using pastels.

She tells us: "To enhance the illustration further, I incorporated digital rendering, which allowed me to refine the details and add a dynamic quality to the image. My aim was to create a piece that is not only striking and beautiful but also exudes a sense of power and elegance, reflecting the essence of Alessandra Rich's design."

"I am deeply honoured to have been shortlisted for the Fida awards, as drawing has always been a passion of mine, and this recognition encourages me even more to pursue a career in fashion illustration and excites me about the possibilities this opens up for my future."

"I am honoured to have been shortlisted for the second time alongside such a high level of other artworks. It is amazing that my entry allows me to showcase my graduate collection, illustrating two of my outfits. I worked with fineliner and coloured pencil to contrast the blue paper and highlight details and textures within my designs."
