BA (Hons) Fashion Design student Lily Robinson has won a three-week work placement at Morgan & Fenwick Bespoke British Tailoring.
Our BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree course is known for its second-year tailoring module. The module and Morgan & Fenwick competition is loved by students and the internship is highly sought after.
Samantha Fenwick, Leeds Arts University BA (Hons) Fashion Design alumni and Director and co-owner of Morgan & Fenwick, judges the competition each year.
This year, second-year students wrote to Samantha directly, outlining their jacket concepts and features, whilst sharing their favourite aspect of the tailoring module and what they hoped to learn at Morgan & Fenwick if they were selected as a winner.
Samantha came to Leeds Arts University to interview the four shortlisted finalists, Lucy Esgate, Lewis Harrison, Lorin Beck and Lily Robinson.
The garment Lily created for the brief was called “A Pocket or Three”. Lily designed an asymmetric jacket featuring mismatched tartan fabrics, distinctive panelling, and multiple pockets. The design includes a curved collar, a double welt pocket with a flap, and two inseam pockets, true to the name. The lower half consists of 12 individually sized panels, adding to the garment’s unique structure.
Lily's research focused on feminine tailoring styles, particularly Dior’s Bar Jacket and Vivienne Westwood’s Storm Jacket. Lily was drawn to the Bar Jacket’s elegant structure and the unconventional edge of the Storm Jacket, elements she blended into her own design.

Whilst working with Morgan & Fenwick, Lily will get the chance to have their garment remade using Morgan & Fenwick fabrics and have their garments shot with a professional photographer.
