In February 2024, BA (Hons) Fashion Design student, Millie Connor, was selected by the Founder and Creative Director of clothsurgeon, Rav Matharu, as winner of the annual clothsurgeon student brief competition. Millie was awarded an internship to work with Rav and his team at the Savile Row store. After graduating in the summer, Millie completed her three-week placement from October to November 2024. We caught up with Millie to hear all about it!
During Millie’s placement, she shadowed clothsurgeon’s Junior Designer and Development Assistant Kurtis McCoy, and gained insight into the inner workings of the business and the intricate production process behind the creation of bespoke garments, undertaking a variety of tasks. Millie sourced fabrics and trims for custom pieces from suppliers; travelled around London meeting people within the industry; assembled research and development boards; and hand-finished garments.
"I'm incredibly grateful to Rav and Parv for giving me the opportunity to intern at clothsurgeon. It was an unforgettable experience where I not only connected with some inspiring people but also deepened my understanding of both the business and design worlds. I'm excited to carry these lessons forward into my career."
Millie was awarded her placement as part of Rav Matharu’s annual clothsurgeon student brief for the BA (Hons) Fashion Design final year students. Millie received first prize, and the runners-up were Louis O’Reilly and Mackenzie Harper. The 2024/2025 finalist will be announced February 2025.
