Exchange student presents at Vancouver Fashion Week 2024
BA (Hons) Fashion Design
Lexi Chang of HAZI HAUS, and the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course 2020, presented her SS25 collections on the runway at Vancouver Fashion Week 2024.
Lexi Chang is Taiwanese born, Canadian raised, and pays homage to her roots via her brand HAZI HAUS. After 2020 when Lexi joined Leeds Arts University on an international exchange programme, Lexi has been based in Canada developing HAZI HAUS, a project to channel her creativity and challenge herself as an artist.
"It has been an emotional journey to witness this full-circle moment—starting as a backstage helper [at Vancouver Fashion Week] and now to have shown my own original designs on the runway. It’s been a long time in the making, and I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come."

Lexi was supported and mentored by Alex S. Yu, a designer womenswear brand, to pursue her own designs which helped Lexi in showcasing her first HAZI HAUS collection at VFW. Lexi discusses her brand, journey, and experience at Leeds Arts University in more detail in an interview with Marilyn Wilson of ‘Olio by Marilyn’.
"My time at Leeds sparked a major directional change in my design practice - I learned to be freer and less confined by traditional, conventional boundaries in my creative thinking. While design is to serve a purpose, I learned that there can be a sweet spot between functionality and wild imagination. This experimental approach encouraged me to be bolder in the way I tell my story as a designer."

Chang continued; "University was a defining chapter in my life, providing me with the space to explore my passions, push beyond my limits, and cultivate confidence in my abilities. It was a transformative experience that not only taught me to embrace uncertainty but also led me to discover my true voice."
Lexi exhibited her designs at VFW in October 2024 and we cannot wait to see what she does next!
