Many of our students have opportunities to organise and curate their own events and exhibitions, within the University, in Leeds and around the world.
We encourage our students to be actively involved in our wide-ranging programme of exhibitions. This includes local, national and international opportunities as exhibitors, plus the chance to curate, to be ambassadors and to attend openings. We have a dedicated exhibitions officer and we also run a curating course (with a few free places available for students), which helps you learn how to plan and run exhibitions and related projects.
Student exhibitions
Our students can apply to hold their own exhibition of creative work, either in our gallery or in other exhibition spaces at both University sites. Students selected to do so are awarded a budget to support the curation of their exhibition. (See what’s on & upcoming in our galleries.)
Why?
The experience and contacts you gain will be useful in building your experience, widening your network, increasing your confidence and developing a strong CV. It’s particularly important if you’re interested in a career in curation, exhibitions, project management or creating site-specific work.
Who?
“Curation and the presentation of art works is crucial, as the presentation can become part of, and inform, how work is perceived. The curation course provides you with a variety of safe hanging methods, along with the confidence to collaborate and handle the works of other artists. Adding these skills to my art practice was extremely beneficial."
Steven Ellis, Fine Art student
“Artwork has been displayed in the waiting rooms of Leeds Student Medical Practice. It’s wonderful to have the work displayed; it’s a talking point and something to admire, bringing pleasure to a lot of people. I am very grateful the University has supported this.”
