Oscar Jackman is a filmmaker, prop maker, and creature and effects makeup artist who graduated from BA (Hons) Filmmaking in 2025.

Whilst studying on the course, Oscar began working in the makeup effects team for the second season of HBO series House of the Dragon. After graduating, Oscar worked on season three of the series, this time also joining the behind-the-scenes crew capturing “making of” footage, alongside makeup work.

Oscar has since gone onto work in practical effects departments for a number of major films and television shows, including The Running Man, 28 Years Later, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, and the upcoming The Batman: Part II. Thinking ahead, Oscar holds ambitions to work on even more feature films, “I have heard X-Men rumours which would be a fun one to get onto, otherwise holding out for the next Austin Powers would be a dream…”

“Within makeup, we do the longest hours. We need to be there for around 4 or 5am ready to stick a makeup on in time for unit call. We then have to take that makeup off after a day if filming finishing around 8pm … If I’m not applying blood, slime or dirt to some poor stunt actor, I will be carrying a dragon, or dead body into shot. (Last year was lucky enough to have carried myself as a dead solider into shot)”

Outside of the makeup and prop making world, Oscar is also producing and directing a number of filmmaking projects. Films currently in development include a documentary about Arsenal football club, and a documentary following Kiran Shah, who is renowned as the world’s shortest professional stunt actor.

“My time at uni was fun. Being with a group of others wanting to make films was a great feeling … Being at uni helped me develop an understanding working with other creatives, and how to handle working with those you work well with and those you don't (trust me you will always be working with both!) The course gave great access to equipment. Which I have learned to miss since being gone…”
