Yvonne lives and works in Leeds and Bradford as a curator, artist and lecturer.

Yvonne Carmichael graduated with a First Class Degree from BA (Hons) Art and Design (Interdisciplinary) in 2006 from Leeds Arts University. During her time at Leeds it was a module focusing on collaboration which really helped Yvonne see a way of being involved in making and curating work after graduating.

Through connections made on the course Yvonne began work co-curating 42 New Briggate, at the time an empty shop unit next The Grand Theatre in Leeds. Yvonne programmed the space in response to opera seasons showing at the theatre by Opera North and could also create open briefs and opportunities in between the opera seasons. Yvonne used this experience in setting up Art in Unusual Spaces, a scheme which runs throughout the city of Leeds bringing independent curators, landlords, artists and businesses together in order to utilise temporarily vacant shop units for exhibitions and events. The project was initiated in partnership with Leeds City Council in December 2009 and since then Art in Unusual Spaces has been constituted an independent Community Interest Company.

Yvonne has also curated exhibitions at the Mint Hotel (now Double Tree by Hilton) in Leeds, Glasgow and Manchester and is a member of the Leeds-based artist collective Black Dogs. As an artist and member of Black Dogs Yvonne has contributed to projects at Tate Modern, MK Gallery (Milton Keynes), +44 141 Gallery (Glasgow) and to numerous exhibitions and commissions locally in Leeds and Bradford. You can find more about the activities of Black Dogs at their website.

Yvonne completed a four month artist residency at Michaelangelo Pistoletto's 'Cittadellarte', Biella (Italy) which focussed on art and social change. Yvonne also worked as part of Documenta(13) Maybe Education team in Kassel (Germany) where she hosted drawing, movement and photography workshops for the 100 day duration of documenta.

Yvonne has delivered lectures and workshops dealing with context-specific curation, artist publications, participation and collaboration at University of Leeds, Bradford University, Leeds Met, Liverpool John Moores and Leeds Arts University on the Art and Design Interdisciplinary and Interior Design courses. Yvonne completed an MFA Fine Art, at University of Leeds in 2013.
