Harriet Bradley is a Junior Strategist at Atomic London, she graduated with BA (Hons) Creative Advertising in 2019. Here’s what she had to say:

What did you enjoy about your time at Leeds Arts University and how did the course help you in starting out professionally?

First and foremost I enjoyed the people. Leeds Arts University attracts such a diverse set of creative people and being surrounded by them every day for 3 years, when you are coming into your own, was such a big deal! From my course mates to my tutors, the amount of support and encouragement that is offered really helps you develop, not only professionally, but personally.

When I think back to the person that I was when I started the course to the person I am now, they are just so different. I used to go bright red whenever talking to a group of more than 8 people, now I still do but I’m smiling when doing it.

What did you do straight after leaving University?

I went straight down to the big smoke as I won a placement at Atomic London off the back of a brief at the end of my final year.

Could you give us a description of a typical day?

I spend the majority of my time researching, and this goes beyond a google search. Being a junior I have found that people from different departments will ask you to do something and my biggest piece of advice would be to do it, it’s a great way to get to know different people in the agency, but also different clients. I am ridiculously lucky to be in an agency where I have ample opportunity to get involved in different projects, which means my day varies.

Do you have any tips or advice for current students or recent graduates?

Learn from everyone but don’t morph into them. It’s easy when you start out to take on other people’s way or working, their style, or even their opinions. But when it comes to it, you are being hired for your brain not anyone else’s.

Finally, are there any future ambitions or projects in the pipeline you can tell us about?

To keep on learning. I feel so strongly about the fact that just because I have left education I haven’t stop learning. So that will always be the ambition.
