Visual Communication student exhibits work in Brazil

BA (Hons) Visual Communication

First year BA (Hons) Visual Communication student Disha Gupta recently exhibited a series of prints in 'Fragmentos', an exhibition held in São Paulo, Brazil.

The exhibition was organised by Artly Mix, an artist-led independent arts organisation, which works with its members to create opportunities to exhibit in the UK and internationally. 'Fragmentos’ ran from 17–30 May at Echos Studio in São Paulo, Brazil and featured a diverse group of contemporary artists from around the world.

Disha’s work, 'Power', is a collection of prints, each with its own unique detail centred on the Mother Goddess, a powerful figure in many cultures representing creation, nurture, and life itself.

The work is inspired by an Indian contemporary artist, Seema Kohli, and her celebration of the feminine and the 'Gond' art traditions of the state Madhya Pradesh in India. While each print shares a common base, they feature different elements that emphasize the Mother Goddess’s impact as both universal and deeply personal. The series explores the complex symbolism of the Mother Goddess, weaving together ideas of creation, nurturing, and personal identity.

“Exhibiting 'Power' internationally in São Paulo, Brazil has been a rewarding experience. Being part of an international exhibition alongside such a diverse and talented group of artists has broadened my perspective and affirmed the power of art to transcend borders and connect people across cultures. I am grateful for the opportunity to share this work and look forward to continuing my creative endeavours with a renewed sense of purpose and connection.”
