Leeds Arts University Chancellor, Skin, has awarded scholarships to three students commencing their undergraduate studies in 2024/25.
Skin's Chancellor Scholarships aim to support the general living and maintenance costs of students during their time at university to enable them to progress through their studies.
"I’m thrilled to be able to support students commencing their studies at Leeds Arts University. The diversity of applicants this year supports my belief that the arts are for everyone, and I hope these scholarships help more students to follow their dreams. The quality of work was, as ever, of a really high standard and I have no doubt that the recipients will grab this opportunity with both hands and excel in their chosen disciplines."
The scholarships have been awarded to two home students: Nicky Haus, BA (Hons) Textile Design and Lucy Shaw, BA (Hons) Illustration student. One international scholarship was awarded to Kapela Joy Kimpinde, a BA (Hons) Animation student from Congolese (DRC).
"This scholarship is more than just financial assistance; as a mature student, it is a validation of my journey and a testament to the idea that age should never be a barrier to achieving one's goals and that skills from various career paths can be transferable. With this support, I can fully dedicate myself to my studies in textile design and share my experiences in hope of inspiring others, regardless of their background, to pursue their passions and educational aspirations."
"It feels reassuring to have my art recognised and rewarded. Seeing my family's relief and pride after the news definitely boosted my confidence and excitement to begin my journey as an animator at Leeds."
The three students will be awarded a cash scholarship of £3,000 per year for the three years of their undergraduate studies.
