Recent BA (Hons) Photography graduate Daniel Jefferies, was selected for the Manth Immersive Photography residency in Bracciano, Italy.
The Manth residency is aimed at artists who wish to fully immerse themselves in a rural environment and have a desire to explore their creativity in a natural setting. Daniel was awarded this year’s paid fellowship placement at the farmhouse in Bracciano, near Rome, to develop and refine his project over the course of a week with the guidance of mentors Guido Gazzilli, and fellow alumnus, Maurizio Cogliandro.

Daniel continued; "the residency was a great opportunity to get myself straight into life as a working artist. I was able to concentrate my time wholly on a project and really begin to understand the work as I was making it. Guido and Maurizio gave me a lot of freedom and some great advice during my time there too."
Daniel’s residency project, 'Scarle', was an investigation into sculpture and truth; questioning the artistic potential of ordinary materials and the landscape. Daniel achieved this through creating installations in abandoned or overlooked rural sites, and capturing them on film. Alongside these constructed scenes, he began to document his surrounding environment, creating a visual dialogue between intervention and observation.

'Scarle' is an ongoing project and Daniel has plans for a solo-show and coinciding publication in the future.
