Photography graduate to exhibit at Experimental Photo Festival

BA (Hons) Photography

Recent BA (Hons) Photography graduate Imogen Hero will be exhibiting ‘A Topography of Micro Planets’ at the Experimental Photo Festival from 24-28 July 2024 in Barcelona, and at Edinburgh Science Festival at Summerhall from 30 March – 26 May 2024.

Photographic artist Imogen Hero uses her expertise in analogue photographic techniques combined with scientific processes to examine the interconnectedness of life in the Universe. The work in this project was created by collaborating with microbial cultures on the surface of photographic film to create new ‘Micro Planets’ which operate as topographic studies of microbial landscapes. The images presented act as cross-species collaborations that transcend terrestrial ecology to reflect what life may look like on other planets, and across vastly different scales.

“Experimental photography is a scientific and creative means for me to collaborate with the nonhuman and allow for my nonhuman subjects to have a part in the image making process. I am really excited to be taking part in the experimental photo festival, I am particularly looking forward to meeting other interdisciplinary photographers and like-minded ecologically engaged practitioners. I’ll see you in Barcelona this summer!”
