Graphic Design student wins internship with OurCreative

BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Harvey Johnson will take up a three-month internship at OurCreative, after winning a brief set by the award-winning branding and design agency. The brief challenged students to create a brand that makes DIY feel approachable, empowering and desirable.

OurCreative asked students to consider who their audience was, and then go all in on their brand, targeting them with a campaign that reshapes how people experience, understand, and feel about DIY in the real world. Harvey’s pitch, PUNCH©, responds to that challenge as an e-commerce brand that brings ownership to a rented space.

PUNCH© uses concrete blocks as modules for a dynamic shelving/storage range that fits any restricted space. The idea stems from renters' frustration with feeling unable to personalise their homes, as landlords and legislation prevent them from carrying out home renovations. Animated touchpoints communicate how Punch modular shelving systems are heavily customisable, temporary, and will not cause any damage.

“Who knew concrete blocks could be made to be so sexy? Congratulations to Harvey. We were particularly taken aback by Harvey’s response and how he understood the tensions and frustrations of his audience. His brand name echoed that perfectly. From research and insight to brand name, UX, packaging, and campaign creation that targeted student urbanised areas, Harvey tackled the brief thoroughly. He clearly has a cleanliness and delicacy in his craft; his creative responses really echoed that.”

"Being chosen as the winner is both exciting and motivating as I take my next step from university into the design industry with OurCreative. I am eager to take on this internship opportunity, receiving feedback from industry professionals and developing my design skills alongside what it is like to contribute in a studio environment."
