Nadya Girendroheru, graduate of MA Animation, BA (Hons) Illustration, and Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, was commissioned by the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership to create a music video for All Star Bradford in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day.

Nadya was approached by All Star Bradford to animate a music video for the ‘Every Mind is Different’ track which was written by the Healthy Minds Apprentice team 2022/23 who wanted to share their own lived experience of autism and neurodivergence in the hope of spreading awareness across West Yorkshire and beyond. The song was originally released as a performance music video in 2023, but has now been reimagined into a colourful original animation by Nadya Girendroheru.

“I am very grateful to Michael and the All Star Bradford team for giving me this opportunity. They gave me a lot of creative freedom. I emailed every couple of weeks with progress updates and every time they gave me amazing feedback and allowed me to run away with my ideas.”

Nadya continued; “I went my own way with the conceptual art. I familiarised myself with the song and then started to envision how it was going to look. I created a neurodivergent friendly colour palette with bright colours and included objects such as DND dice, a Gromit mug etc., to try and connect with the audience. It was also my first time animating British Sign Language (BSL), and you have to get everything right when animating sing language as a slight change in gesture could mean something different. It was a really fun challenge.”

“Working with 2D hand drawn animation is incredible. There is so much you can express and it’s a great way to tell stories. It is fantastic for creating concepts and it allows you to breathe life into things and inanimate objects. That human touch is integral to the creative process.”
