Fine Art student's work published in new book

BA (Hons) Fine Art

A painting and essay by final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student Holly Tomlinson has been featured in a recent publication by artist and researcher Aldobranti.

The publication 'Towards the Other, Art, Ethics and the boundaries of the Self' compiled and edited by Aldobranti and published by edizioni FoscoFornio, features the work of twelve artists alongside a series of research essays.

The book looks at how we understand ourselves as the ‘Other’, exploring the ethics of encountering and questioning the boundaries of language, likeness, and belief.

Holly’s painting Proper Gander (2024) is included in the publication, alongside an essay discussing the intentions of Proper Gander and the power of propaganda on the human psyche, particularly that of military propaganda on the ‘Others’ of society and her experience growing up surrounded by its influence.

"It's incomparable to anything to see your work so neatly printed in an artist book alongside other incredible artists and researchers, the physicality of it all really leaves an impact that reminds you of the tangibility of your work outside the studio space. It was a great honour to be selected by Aldobranti out of 200 other applicants to have Proper Gander (2024) and its accompanying essay featured in Towards the Other, Art, Ethics and the boundaries of the Self. Propaganda is rife in this modern era, particularly military propaganda, and it is so crucial that my message of being aware of our societal absurdities can be spread further in this fantastic publication."
