Five recent BA (Hons) Animation graduates won awards at the Royal Television Society’s Yorkshire Student Awards 2024 on 6 March 2024 in York.

The RTS Student Television Awards encourage, nurture, support and reward talent, potential and enthusiasm of students in colleges and universities for the creation of film and video content.

The five Leeds Arts University winners won the Animation award and Craft Awards in Production Design. The winners were:

  • Animation: 'The Princess and the Dragon' by Annie Nicholson and Daniel Simms

  • Production Design: 'Inked In' by Marta Björk Atladóttir

  • Production Design: 'Voyage' by Hope Hewart and Vivienne Percival

"It was wonderful to spend the evening with so many talented people. Winning was a tremendous surprise, and I'm glad I got to share the joy with some old friends."

The students, who all graduated from the course in 2023, also took part in the Eat Our Shorts 2023 competition and were invited to attend the screening which took place at BFI Southbank in London on 17 November 2023.

"I am incredibly happy to receive an award for production design on my film, Inked In, since the design was the reason I made the film. It is a stop motion film with a technique-based narrative about the life of a doodle character inside an illustrator’s page. In order to achieve the doodle look, I developed a technique to include line art in the stop motion puppet design and animate it to camera."
