Animation graduates selected for Norwich Queer International Film Festival

BA (Hons) Animation graduates Katie Holland and Ally Babbini-Baker will be screening their film ‘La Lunière’ at this year’s Norwich Queer International Film Festival.

The Norwich Queer International Film Festival, which returns this year for its third edition, platforms queer film and moving image from around the world, celebrating innovative and diverse forms of expression.

Directed by Katie Holland and co-created by Ally Babbini-Baker, ‘La Lunière’ is a “mixed-media sapphic tragedy, exploring the unfated romance between the sea and the moon”. Made during Katie and Ally’s final year, the short incorporates hybrid animation and stop-motion, and saw them working alongside a host of collaborators, including Mimi Pattison-Drury (BA (Hons) Creative Writing), who wrote and performed the poem “The Moon and The Hole She Left Behind”, and Sam Jones (who makes music under the moniker Partial Minds), who soundtracked the film.

Speaking about their experience making ‘La Lunière’, the duo notes how the film brought together “a community of creatives driven by whimsy”, continuing “this film wouldn’t have been possible without the variety of equipment, workshops and departments at LAU. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this film, including tutors, technicians, peers, friends and family members.”
