Extended Diploma in Art and Design (now Extended Diploma in Creative Practice) alumna, Kate Marshall, has been announced as the new Jerwood Resident Designer at Leeds Playhouse and Leeds based children’s theatre company Tutti Frutti Productions.
Kate commences her year-long placement this month where she will be working on a wide range of projects and activities across Leeds Playhouse’s production departments and with Tutti Frutti on their national and USA tours. The placement is supported by the Jerwood Foundation and is an exciting chance for an early career Yorkshire-based theatre designer to take their creativity to the next level.
"It feels really surreal to be chosen as the new Jerwood Resident Designer - I still can’t quite believe it! As an artist, you can have all the potential in the world but often as an early career designer, getting your foot in the door and gaining that vital experience can be the most challenging step. I’m so grateful that Leeds Playhouse saw something in me and chose to help me grow. I truly cannot wait for all the knowledge I can gain from this coming year, and all the opportunities it could lead to."
“We’re thrilled that Kate is joining us as our new Jerwood Resident Designer. She is a brilliant local artist with fresh ideas and an incredible enthusiasm for her craft. While she’s learning and developing with our amazing in-house teams of artists, I’m sure we’ll be learning from her too!”
Kate completed the Extended Diploma in 2017 and has since contributed work to various community productions at Cast in Doncaster and made her assisting debut on ‘The Odyssey: The Cyclops’ as part of The National Theatre’s Public Acts production.
