Following the opening, the works will be available to see until 28 February 2025 by appointment by contacting curatorial@leeds-art.ac.uk.
Hardeep Pandhal: Quest Quest and Humble Beginnings
Hardeep Pandhal uses drawing to create mythical narratives that explore the complexities of contemporary culture, class, racial violence and power. The exhibition presents a new wall drawing and works on paper from two new series of works: 'Quest Quest' and 'Humble Beginnings'. Pandhal will present other works from these series, produced as part of the APP Commission, in a new solo exhibition titled Inner World at Drawing Room, London, in February 2025.
Corissa Duhra: boundaries/bounded
Corissa Duhra’s 'boundaries/bounded' channels existential concerns into physical forms from the discarded, echoing themes of abandonment and resilience, embodying the overlooked and the forgotten. The sculpture’s imposing stance and intrusive presence invite the viewer to confront the pervasive gaze of societal norms, raising questions about the power dynamics that govern our choices and the extent to which we allow cultural expectations to dictate our identity. The inclusion of atta, a staple of domestic life, ties back to the cultural expectations that permeate everyday interactions. If existentialism is indeed a humanism, how much of our free will do we willingly surrender to these pressures?
