Foundation Diploma in Art and Design - 3D Design Pathway Leader

Suzi is the 3D Design Pathway Leader on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, a role she has held since 2013. Suzi is a designer, maker, researcher and educator, driven by ideas and playing with materials. Suzi has a particular interest in material exchange and appropriation, the concept of value and how materials and objects interact with the body. Suzi’s background is in jewellery and metalwork, with an MA from the Royal College of Art.

Suzi has industry experience in Film and TV, working as a prop maker, set designer, art director and as part of task design teams. Passionate about heritage crafts and constantly learning new skills, Suzi has most recently been learning woodworking and leather techniques used to make traditional Yorkshire clogs, with a research focus on heritage craft skills.

Suzi has a PGCE in Lifelong Learning and her passion for the Foundation Course led to a PhD in Art Education. She specifically explored the history and future of the Foundation Course, as well as one of its key developers, Tom Hudson, who held the role of 3D Design lecturer at Leeds Arts University in the 1950s, on one of the first Foundation Courses. She has participated in various projects and roundtable discussions about art education at events and institutions including Tate Britain, Paris College of Art and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
