Nicola is Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Design, having previously been a senior lecturer on the course for 7 years. Through her teaching she has worked with all level year groups and on a wide range of modules including:-research, design, professional practice and industry briefs, fashion portfolios and final year collections.
Nicola gained a Masters in Art & Design in 2016 her work undertaken throughout her masters focused on creating fashion artefacts for display and curation within an art gallery setting. Her recent research has been working collaboratively and focuses on fashion design pedagogy she has presented her research at symposiums and produced a published article entitled ‘Trusting Techne: An exploration into the creative value of learning through doing’. Current research is underway working on a proposed exhibition focused on the impact of the West Riding area on contemporary fashion.
Previously Nicola has worked in London in various roles within the fashion industry more recently being involved in sourcing and buying collections from a range of international designers and brands for an Independent womenswear retailer. Following her fashion design studies, Nicola began working in fashion promotion and PR working with the Italian design house Versace. Following this, she established herself as a freelance fashion stylist working for a range of publications such as Style Sunday Times ‘Style’, US Vogue, GQ, undertaking regular editorials for fashion pages of The Times and viewing a wide range of designer collections. Alongside this editorial work, commissioned work was also undertaken for fashion brands, celebrity styling and photoshoots, also styling Music artists for film and video.
Her work has appeared on covers of GQ, Sunday Times ‘Style’ and in The National Portrait Gallery. Career highlights include working with Photographer David Bailey for US Vogue and styling shows at London Fashion Week.
