BA (Hons) Acting for Screen - Senior Lecturer

Mudassar Dar is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Acting for Screen course at Leeds Arts University. He is an actor, director and educator with a professional and creative practice rooted in contemporary screen performance.

He joined Leeds Arts University after working across higher education and youth arts, including roles with National Youth Theatre, Leeds Playhouse and Light Night Leeds, where he contributed to performance and engagement projects with a focus on accessibility and inclusive practice.

As an actor, Mudassar has worked across film, television, theatre and commercial projects. His screen work includes appearances on productions connected to ITV, BBC and Channel 4. This professional experience informs his teaching and allows him to share current industry insight and on-set practice with students.

He also led the Ignite Project in partnership with Netflix, supporting young people to learn about careers in the TV and film industry. The project introduced participants to a range of on-screen and off-screen roles, helping demystify routes into the industry and broaden access for those who may not otherwise see it as a viable career path.

Mudassar recently directed a student production of We Could All Be Perfect by Hannah Morley at CAPA College, guiding actors towards emotionally detailed and truthful performances. His interests include screen naturalism, actor wellbeing in training and emotionally intelligent directing.

He holds an MA in Acting (Distinction) from Guildford School of Acting and a BA in Media Studies with Television Production from University of Bradford. Earlier in his career he worked as a lighting and sound technician, which informs his understanding of on-set practice and collaborative production.

His teaching practice is rooted in play, curiosity and exploration. He creates rehearsal and classroom spaces where experimentation is encouraged, mistakes are part of learning and actors build confidence through doing, reflecting and trying again.
