Extended Diploma in Creative Practice - Deputy Course Leader

I’m Lee and I’m the Deputy Course Leader on the Extended Diploma in Creative Practice and I oversee year one.

Since completing my BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art in Coventry, some time ago, I have worked as an artists’ technician for site-specific installation projects as well as for a number of London-based art galleries alongside my practice as a sculptor, drawer, printmaker. I completed a series of artist residencies at the Chisenhale Gallery, Mile End, London where my interest in art education was born. I was a founding member of an arts group based in the East End of London in which we transformed a disused railway arch into an art space and had a series of exhibitions in the East End.

After completing my PGCE at Goldsmiths, London, I worked in a London high school before moving back to Yorkshire to work in a Bradford high school as Head of Art. I combined this with art commissions and the set-up of a kid's clothing business which developed my understanding of fabric print processes, web design and point-of-sale design.

I have worked at Leeds Arts University for the last 20 years on a number of different Level Three courses. I will be developing my own practice this year as I embark on my Master of Arts in Creative Practice here at the University. I would now describe my practice as being somewhere between Fine Art and 3D Design, I am fascinated by the natural world and rock formations. During my MA I will be investigating the use of eco and sustainable sculptural materials and look forward to what this will bring to my practice and to the projects I teach.
