Dr Lizzy Orcutt

MA Photography - Course Leader

Dr Elizabeth Orcutt is the Course Leader for MA Photography. She has taught in higher education since 2014 and has had an earlier career in print and online pictures journalism. She is also a practising artist using lens-based media. She has exhibited locally and internationally.

Lizzy’s career before teaching was as a photography editor. She worked at The Times for several years by assisting the picture editor as deputy, by managing the photographic content of the newspaper and a team of editors and photographers. She also worked at the Sunday Times Magazine, working on its 50th anniversary exhibition that took place at The Saatchi Gallery in 2012. She continues to work as a picture editor and researcher, most recently for Reuters and Tortoise Media.

She holds a PhD by practice titled Reflection and Photography: Materialising my[visual]self, awarded in 2022 by University of the Arts London - this research was founded on series of visual essays (attempts or try-outs) that indicated her self sited within the look, neither subject nor object but intersubjective and experiential. She also holds an MA in Photography with distinction from Falmouth University.
