BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art - Senior Lecturer

Claire Smith is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art course. She specialises in comics with a focus on writing, lettering and motion graphics through use of Adobe Creative Suite. Claire’s area of practice and research is centred on self-promotion, as well as comic-making throughout history and current developments in the industry.

Claire has been working within the UK independent comics scene since 2013, and has in the last few years delivered panellist talks and activities as part of MCM London Comic Con. As well as her self-published comics; ‘I Work With Cats’, ‘SugarDropped’ and ‘Neutral Evil’, Claire has produced 2D environment work for independent games.

Before joining Leeds Arts University in December 2023, Claire was a lecturer in Cartoon and Comic Arts at Staffordshire University. Claire graduated with Distinction from her Masters by Negotiated Study in Comic Arts from Staffordshire University and has a BA (Hons) in Cartoon and Comic Arts with First Class Honours from Staffordshire University.
