Students from BA (Hons) Fine Art lent their support to the BBC’s latest DIY SOS: The Big Build project which was filmed in Leeds earlier this year.

The programme took on a big build for Children in Need to create a new a headquarters for Getaway Girls, a Leeds based charity which has been providing support and empowering young women in Leeds for over 30 years. With support from local trades, suppliers and volunteers DIY SOS constructed a new purpose-built headquarters in Seacroft to allow the charity to continue to expand and offer more opportunities to young women in Leeds.

Students from the University’s fine art course, including Hannah Archer, Sophie Fletcher and Zoe Marshall went along to lend their skills to the project, assisting artist Jan Erika who was commissioned by the programme to paint a mural inside the building.

DIY SOS: The Big Build airs on Wednesday 16 November, 9pm on BBC One.
