The University were delighted to welcome acclaimed recording artist, DJ and lead singer of multi-million selling rock band, Skunk Anansie, Skin, returning after becoming the University’s first Chancellor last year.

During the visit, musicians from BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance were given the opportunity to perform live for Skin. Joined by musician, artist and Skunk Anansie colleague Erika Footman, they provided the students with feedback, noting the high performing standard and providing thoughtful critiques on their performances.

“We were delighted to welcome Skin back to the University to work with our students. To gain critical feedback from an acclaimed performer is an invaluable opportunity to an aspiring musician and I know the students appreciated her insights”

Skin also took the opportunity to tour the University building and meet with Vice-Chancellor Professor Simone Wonnacott and members of the University board.

Skin later played in Leeds with her band Skunk Anansie as part of their ongoing European tour, with students from the University being given the opportunity to watch the soundcheck and later attend the gig.

“It was a real privilege to pop into Leeds Arts University to watch the students perform and to meet and chat with them. As Chancellor for this wonderful University I’ve not had much chance to be in the building due to Covid restrictions, so I was so thrilled to finally be in the room with these supremely talented kids. We also invited them to soundcheck so they could check out our rig and I was so inspired to see them moshing around during to show! Thank you to all involved for organising the visit, and the incredible students for making my heart shine. They are the future!”
