Cassie Suche is a BA (Hons) Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design student who was recently awarded an Alumni Fund Bursary.
Her work focuses on unique and abstract imagery, drawing inspiration from intricate linear work, op art, and natural textures and patterns. Hoping to pursue a career in non-commercial design, Cassie was keen to find a placement with a studio that would give her the opportunity to experience this at a professional level.
With support from an Alumni Fund Bursary, Cassie was able to take up a two week placement at Glasgow based studio Timorous Beasties, giving her the opportunity to work on interior focused, luxury design.
We caught up with Cassie to find out more.
“My experience is Glasgow was very authentic, in that it rained every single day (haha!). Luckily I was spending those rainy days in the stunning studio of Timorous Beasties.
As an intern, I assisted with arranging and sending samples, screen printing wallpaper and textiles, and working on original designs with Photoshop. It was a great learning experience to be one of the many moving parts that make the studio function, and my time as an intern was incredibly valuable in helping me understand how a small design studio can operate. The unbelievably welcoming and inclusive studio team made my experience wonderful and thanks to my bursary I was able to afford the trip and find accommodation close to the studio.
This internship was tremendously beneficial to me as I make significant decisions about my future career plans. As an experience, this was instrumental in guiding me closer to finding my place in the design world when I graduate, and I am really grateful for the help that the Alumni Bursary Fund provided.”
The Alumni Fund Bursary has been made possible through generous donations from former students of the University. To find out more about the bursary, or if you are interested in making a donation please visit our Supporter Page here.
