Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 180 years, and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.
We are looking for Lecturers (Lecturer Pool) for the BA (Hons) Creative Writing course. Applicants will have a degree in a relevant subject, be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise as an industry professional, active practitioner or educator in Creative Writing. We are particularly interested in candidates with specialisms in one or more of the following: poetry, drama (screen and stage), comedy, and nature writing.
Appointments will involve short term teaching blocks with frequency of sessions to be confirmed. Successful candidates will be placed on a register and considered for any future teaching that may occur. Experience of teaching at the relevant level is desirable, though experts with significant industry experience and an interest to develop teaching skills may also be of interest. Full details of the essential requirements for the role can be found in the job description.
Details of the Creative Writing course can be found on our website: https://www.leeds-art.ac.uk/courses/ba-hons-creative-writing
Successful candidates to the pool will undertake a short, paid induction period to familiarise them with University systems.
Given the adhoc and possibly short-term nature of assignments that may be offered, applications are particularly encouraged from those who are located within an easy commuting distance of the University.
Please note CVs will not be accepted for this position.
Interviews will be held in person on Thursday 27 August 2026
Leeds Arts University is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all learners and expect our staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be made on merit, and as an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. In recognition of our commitment to create a diverse team that draws from our widest talent pool, we would particularly encourage applications from groups who are currently under-represented at this level, which in this case is our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic applicants.
We are committed to offering a flexible approach to staff with regards to their work, for which we operate home working principles to facilitate a hybrid mode of site/remote working. The primary location for work is the University campus in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
