Partner schools and colleges
The Progression Team, supported by our Progression Ambassadors, work strategically with our Partner Schools and Colleges as part of our Access and Participation Plan, approved by the Office for Students (OfS).
As part of the Access and Participation Plans the aspiration raising activities are targeted to reach out to students who are experiencing disadvantage to their potential to progress into higher education whether for economic reasons, location, previous family experience of higher education, ethnic origin, disability or are a care leaver.
We provide activities for primary school pupils, through to art and design students in years 9 to 13, offering a range of activities that inform the young of the routes into, and choices within, the creative industries as a career.
We also deliver information, advice and guidance, presentations, creative workshops, small group taster days in specialist processes such as glass, metal work, printmaking and casting. We also provide a focus on the application process into art and design courses by running personal statement writing workshops, mock interviews and portfolio guidance.
Activities can be held in school, at school/college careers events or during daytime or twilight sessions at the Blenheim Walk campus.

The After School Art Club
The After School Art Club
The Progression After School Club is a widening participation initiative that is part of the Leeds Arts University’s Access and Participation Plan, approved by the Office for Students (OfS). It provides aspiration and attainment raising opportunities for young people who are in receipt of free school meals, looked after young people (LAYP), disabled students, black or minority ethnic students or young people who live in an area of low participation in higher education.
Applications for the After School Club are considered on an individual basis and the course is provided at no cost to those young people. The club is very popular and numbers are limited, therefore some applications may not be successful.
We ask that teachers provide information of this opportunity to their students, who possess the above criteria and who will particularly benefit from this opportunity.
We have many current degree students who have progressed to Leeds Arts University after first taking part in the After School Club or taster days when at school.
Participants expand their creative skills, enhance their portfolios, gain confidence and gain an insight of attending a specialist Art School.
Each term there will be a developing theme of exploration, led by the Progression team and Student Ambassadors. Participants will experience a wide range of creative processes such as working with glass, metal, clay, printmaking processes, casting, painting, drawing, life drawing, design, textiles, sketch book exploration and will visit a gallery or a collection.
The Club, for young people (from year 10 to 13) runs each term as a six week twilight programme of activities on Thursday evenings from 5 to 7pm at the Blenheim Walk campus. The participants are limited to 30 per term and applications are considered three times a year.
We ask that the young person is studying art or design at school and wishes to extend their skills and experience in creative processes.
The After School Club is an initiative provided for young people who are in receipt of free school meals, looked after young people, disabled students, black or minority ethnic students or young people residing in an area of low participation in higher education. Applications for the After School Taster Club are considered on a priority basis and the course is provided at no cost to those young people.
