AJ Balmer
Course BA (Hons) Filmmaking
The Moors: Cinepoem
AJ Balmer is a filmmaker that does not have one succinct style but prefers working with other creatives in different fields, other than just filmmaking, in order to give new life to their work by presenting it in a new format. As a queer artist they tend to lean towards collaborating with other queer creatives as to uplift their work and their voices to a wider audience. They prefer working in non-fiction as the end result does not have to be as structured and the creative process can flow more easily from development to post-production. Also, working within a smaller crew works well for their films as it allows for a more collaborative environment in all stages of each film.

'Lilyanne'
I don’t enjoy writing these bios, I study filmmaking at Leeds Arts, want to be a cinematographer – I enjoy long walks on Sugarwell Hill and Big sandwiches from EATALIANO based on 11 Britannia ST. favourite sandwich – Pollo Milanese.
Although this year I didn’t get to branch into short films as much as I’d like too, I opted for music videos and applied what I learnt into this field. This summer I aim to delve into testing my ability to adapt novels into a screenplay, I read a book I really like and want to make one of the chapters into a Short SciFi/Comedy based on Mars. Usually you can catch me running away from the law and cracking on with work in the same day. Life is chaotic, the debt collectors won’t get me, can’t get me. I have diamond hands.

Course BA (Hons) Filmmaking
'Metamorphosis'
I have a deep love for storytelling both in the visual and written form. My films always have a hint of my fine art roots and Icelandic background, with the use of colours and landscapes to tell a story. I am an experienced director and scriptwriter, for that has been my role in most of the films I have worked on. Metamorphosis is a very personal film to me, it has themes I have dealt with and other women in my life; it is a love letter to them from me, and how the experience of being a woman is a powerful and beautiful thing even the highs and lows. I hope it inspires and touches not just people who identify as a woman but everyone who sees it.

Phoebe Hay
Course BA (Hons) Filmmaking
'United'
Phoebe Hay is a Producer based in Leeds, UK.
I had been studying film theory for 5 years until I began my career as a producer. I have produced over 10 short films and other media content in my 3 years as a competent filmmaker. Being from a tiny town in North East England has meant there were limited opportunities for young film producers. Thinking about where I have been in the past and where I might go in the future is my fuel for inspiration.

'Fun House Mirrors'
For some time I’ve felt the need to create something based on my history with eating disorders and body dysmorphia. Through experience, I can attest to the fact that this type of illness isn’t represented widely (or well) within todays media, especially when it comes to men. It was my goal to shed light on an obscure issue and inform to the best of my ability. As my time at university comes to a close, I hope to continue doing so into the future.

King Yat Yau
Course BA (Hons) Filmmaking
'A Tale of Two Sons'
King Yat Yau is a storyteller, first and foremost. Whether it’s fusing his life into scripts or splicing images on a screen, he enjoys entertaining people and giving them an insight into the world of walking a road of mixed cultures. His works focus on offering questions on the Christian faith, insights of a life from Asia, or at worse a few laughs worthy of their time as he explores being a student feeling at home in a place far from home. "I engage in conversations and analyse what drives society, not to frighten, but to inspire."
