We spoke to our final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student, Joseph Turner, on the exciting projects he is currently working on, his time studying at Leeds Arts University and his plans for after graduating...
What do you specialise in and what are you working on at the moment?
I am just finishing off my degree in Graphic Design. For the last three years, the course has trained me to channel my own creative skills into solving any problem I am faced with. Over the course of the degree I have pushed art direction into identity and branding, editorial design and visual artwork.
Currently I am preparing to install my graduate show! I am creating a sneaker installation, a comment on trainer trends and 'hype', exploring and applying this to a cheap shoe. Can you tell the difference?
How does Leeds Arts University help you develop your practice?
The course has pushed professionality into my skills, approach to working and production methods, preparing me for industry. It has encouraged self-initiated networking, which I have taken advantage of, particularly internationally and has made me realise the potential and diverse range of skills Graphic Design entails.
What do you plan to do after University?
After University, I hope to work abroad and experience design culture in different countries whilst pushing my Graphic Design approach of thinking into more than just the design industry, looking at film and music.
