Dr David Steans is Subject Specialist on the MA Fine Art course and a Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Fine Art course. In 2019 he completed his PhD in Fine Art at University of Leeds in 2019 and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Steans is an artist whose practice encompasses writing, moving image, music, performance and installation. He works with narrative and storytelling, and employs the ‘blurring’ of reality and fiction as a creative method. He is interested in genre, particularly genre horror which is a key reference point. Steans explores ideas around artifice, simulation, and theatricality, and there is a reflexive, meta quality to much of his output. The voice – whether written, spoken, or as a kind of authorial voice – recurs as a subject and feature in Steans’ practice, and he sees the voice as a material and medium.
