We caught up with BA (Hons) Fashion Photography student, Simran Kanda, to talk about why she chose Leeds Arts University, what she enjoys about the course and her plans for when she graduates...
Why did you choose Leeds Arts University?
I chose Leeds Arts University because it felt right and I felt much more comfortable in a constant and continuous creative environment, surrounded by students just like me! When I was looking through university options on UCAS, I saw what the University had to offer and the facilities looked great. After having my interview, the lecturers enabled me to feel calm and stress-free, which was lovely because interviews can be very scary. I left the interview feeling accepted for who I was.
What made you select BA (Hons) Fashion Photography?
I chose Fashion Photography as I have always been interested in Fashion Design but was looking to do something a little different. I really enjoy all the elements of Fashion Photography, the styling, working in studios, modelling and street photography. The course looked like so much fun and I thought it could open a lot of exciting opportunities for me!
What do you really enjoy about your course and the University?
Our lecturers have a lot of experience and have worked or are still working within the industry, so they’re knowledge and advice is amazing and really helpful. Having this first hand advice has been great for us to succeed in opportunities within the industry. The facilities are also incredible and the guidance we get from the Workshop Instructors is really great! The diversity of everyone working and studying within the University is really interesting because you get a range of different views from your peers, which is challenging but helps develop your ideas and you as a creative professional.
What do you plan to do after University?
I don’t have any definite plans for after graduating. I’m still learning and discovering who I am creatively. I really enjoy what I’m doing and my photography skills are continuously improving. When I started this course I had minimal photography skills as my main interest was fashion. I’m not too worried with what happens next, I’m just going to go with the flow!
What makes Leeds a good place to study?
Leeds is a great place to study as it’s a big but intimate city and everyone around you is so friendly. The city and the University also has a continuous host of professional speakers and events which are really insightful and helpful.
