We caught up with BA (Hons) Fashion Photography student, Jack Francis, to find out more about about his experience at Leeds Arts University and his plans are after he graduates...
Why did you choose Leeds Arts University?
I chose Leeds Arts University due to the excellent facilities and equipment that the Fashion Photography course offers. After my interview, I felt that this would be the right environment for me to express my ideas with full support from my tutors. The extension and refurbishment of the Blenheim Walk building and the recent University status has also ensured me that Leeds Arts University was the right choice for me!
What made you select BA (Hons) Fashion Photography?
It’s something I’m really passionate about and enjoy doing. One of my main frustrations at A-Level was that I wasn’t allowed to channel my love for fashion in the way I wanted to. Subsequently, I enrolled onto this course in order to be able to feed this passion. As the University specialises in creative arts it means that there is a large pool of creative people within the establishment and collaboration is always encouraged and beneficial.
What do you really enjoy about your course and the University?
I’d say I enjoy the freedom each student is given to showcase our own individual ideas and concepts. Additionally, the flurry of guest speakers and lecturers we have throughout term time allows students to gain a clear insight into the industry itself, thus offering us a sense of direction. There are also some amazing opportunities available through this degree such as enjoying trips to Milan and London fashion week.
What do you plan to do after university?
After university, my ultimate aim is to travel around the world. I want to photograph and document as many different cities and cultures as possible. Obviously enjoying myself whilst I do so!
What makes Leeds a good place to study?
Leeds has everything you need as a student. It’s definitely a place that allows young creatives to thrive. The nightlife is great and accommodates pretty much every music taste. The great transport links mean Leeds is also easy to access.
